Terrifying Treates to Tantalize Your Taste Buds
These are fun, food-related crafts to get the kids involved in. All of these recipes make great family time memories.
Bananas, peeled and cut in half width-wise and cut again in half lengthwise
Mini chocolate chips
Regular-sized chocolate chips
Celery for tangerine pumpkin stems. Cut in 1-inch segments and then cut in half lengthwise
Small marshmallows for the teeth
Peel and slice your banana in half width-wise. Slice it one more time lengthwise.
Take 2 of the mini chocolate chips and push them point side into the banana for the eyes. You can repeat this step for more than 2 eyes, of course.
To make the mouth, take the larger size chocolate chip and using the same method, push the pointy side into the banana.
Wash your green grapes, and remove any stems.
Pat them dry. Make sure your grapes are dry or the frosting will not stick very well.
Once the grapes are dry, dab them with vanilla frosting to make the white part of the eyes.
Use a mini chocolate chip to make the pupil. Place the chip in the middle of the vanilla frosting point side down.
Wash and peel the tangerine, making sure not to disturb the segments.
Take the 1-inch celery segments and place them in the top for a stem.
Slather one apple slice with peanut butter.
Stand the mini marshmallows side by side closest to the edge of your apple with the skin still on.
Once you have the teeth place, set another apple slice on top.
All these treats are a great go-to for an after school snack or a fun surprise for any lunch.
Bell Pepper Jack-O-Lanterns
These are great decorations for any veggie plater. The applications are only limited to your imagination.
Bell peppers, green, red, yellow
Carve a Jack-O-Lantern and take a slice of red or yellow bell pepper the same width and height of the green bell pepper’s face portion. Press this inside against the face of the green bell pepper. Fill the middle with hummus or another thick dip.
Peanut Butter Monster Cookies
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup peanuts
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Mix peanut butter, sugar, egg and nuts together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Roll mixture into small balls and arrange on a baking sheet; flatten each with the bottom of an oiled glass.
Bake for 10 minutes. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 2 minutes before moving to a plate. When the cookies are totally cool, you are ready to assemble your monsters.
Large marshmallows, sliced into 1/4-inch-thick circles
Mini chocolate chips
Slice marshmallows into 1/4-inch-thick circles. Place a dab of chocolate frosting on the pointed tip of the chocolate chip. This will fix the chocolate chip to the circle slice of marshmallow, making the pupil of the eyes. Repeat this again to make 2 eyes or as many eyes as you want your cookie to have. Next, put a dab of chocolate frosting on the back of the marshmallow eye to stick it to the top part of the cookie.
Put a spoon of Nutella on the inside of one side of the cookie without eyes. This will make one side raised. Place the second cookie with the eyes on top.
Cut small triangular-shaped pieces of marshmallow for the teeth. Place them in the mouth. Blanched slivered almonds can be used also.
I’ve Got My Eyes on You Pizza
Fresh mozzarella, sliced in 1/4-inch circles
Mozzarella string cheese, sliced in 1/4-inch circles
Black olives, large and small whole, sliced in half
Red bell peppers, sliced
Add diced ham to the center of the pizza. Bake according to package instructions.
Place large olives on the larger slices of mozzarella and smaller olives on the sliced cheese sticks. Make little circle cutouts for the pupils of the cheese sticks with a straw. Press the straw into the olive to cut out a circle. The red bell pepper slices can be laid out anywhere on the pizza. These are the veins.
Use your imagination and have fun. The sky is the limit. Hint: Olives make very good spiders!
