Get Your Historical Documents Scanned for Posterity’s Sake
Get your historical documents scanned for free as part of National Preservation Week! Henderson Libraries will offer complimentary digital scanning services for your photos, letters and other important papers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28.
During this special event, the staff at Henderson Libraries will scan your items and provide patrons with information about preservation techniques. With your permission, Henderson Libraries would like to add select photos to the Henderson Libraries’ online digital collections. Preserve your memories for generations to come while sharing your local history of Henderson with the community at large.
“We’re looking for historical items that will expand and grow our community-built, online, local history collection,” Henderson Libraries Executive Director Marcie Smedley says. “Bring up to 10 photographs or documents to the event. When we’re done scanning them, you keep the originals, and receive a copy of the digital scans on a portable digital storage device.”
Items that are copyrighted will not be scanned unless written permission is obtained from the copyright holder.
Funds for this project have been provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.

Las Vegas Restaurant, Chef Named James Beard Award Semifinalists
Las Vegas restaurant Lotus of Siam and chef Sheridan Su of Flock & Fowl have been named semifinalists for the 28th annual James Beard Foundation Awards. The awards gala will take place on Monday, May 7, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Lotus of Siam was named a semifinalist for Oustanding Wine Program, an award that recognizes restaurants in operation five or more years that serves as a standard bearer for excellence in wine service through a well-presented wine list, knowledgeable staff and efforts to educate customers about wine.
Su was named a semifinalist for the Best Chef: West award, which is given to chefs who have set new or consistent standards of excellence in their respective regions. Eligible candidates may be from any kind of dining establishment and must have been working as a chef for at least five years with the three most recent years spent in the region.
Established in 1990, the James Beard Awards recognize culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields and furthers the foundation’s mission to celebrate, nurture and honor chefs and other leaders making America’s food culture more delicious, diverse and sustainable for everyone. This year’s awards were selected from a list of more than 20,000 online entries.

Thedrick Andres Named as a Henderson Police Department Deputy Chief
Veteran law enforcement officer Thedrick Andres has been named as a new deputy chief of the Henderson Police Department and began his service in that role on February 12.
Andres came to the Henderson Police Department after retiring from service as a lieutenant with the Arlington, Texas, Police Department. He brings 28 years of experience in the law enforcement profession to his new position. As a deputy chief with the Henderson Police Department, he will oversee field operations.
Andres attended Southern University, where he earned a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in criminal justice. He is also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas and the 54th School of Executive Leadership at Institute for Law Enforcement Administration. Andres and his wife have two children.
Richmond American Homes Announces New Henderson Community
